Privacy Policy
Last updated: April 4, 2026
coffeeprices.org (the "Small Black Coffee Index") is a personal project run by Eric Krueger. This policy explains what data the site collects, how it's used, and how you can request removal.
What I collect
When you submit a coffee price, the following may be stored:
- Location data — the city, country, and approximate coordinates of the coffee shop, either from your device's GPS or entered manually.
- Price and currency — the price you report and the currency it was submitted in.
- Receipt or menu photos — if you use the scan feature, your photo is sent to an AI service (Anthropic's Claude) to extract the price, then stored in Supabase cloud storage.
- Nickname — if you choose to enter one (optional, max 30 characters).
- Shop name — the name and address of the business, sourced from Google Places or entered manually.
I do not collect email addresses, passwords, or account information. There are no user accounts on this site.
How photos are processed
When you upload a receipt or menu photo, it is sent server-side to Anthropic's Claude API for price extraction. The photo is then stored privately in cloud storage for verification purposes only — it is not displayed publicly on the site. Photos are not sold, shared, or used for any purpose beyond verifying the submitted price.
Cookies and analytics
This site uses Google Analytics and Google Ads, which may place cookies on your device for analytics, ad measurement, and remarketing purposes. Google's use of cookies is governed by Google's Privacy Policy.
The site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages, which may collect basic analytics (page views, country-level visitor data) and uses standard web server logs that include IP addresses.
Third-party services
The site uses the following third-party services:
- Supabase — database and file storage (receipt photos)
- Cloudflare — hosting, CDN, and basic analytics
- Anthropic (Claude) — AI receipt/menu scanning
- Google Places API — coffee shop search and details
- Google Ads — advertising and conversion tracking
- OpenStreetMap Nominatim — reverse geocoding (no personal data sent)
Data retention
Submitted prices and associated data are retained indefinitely as part of the public index. Receipt photos are retained as long as needed to verify the associated submission.
Your rights
You can request removal of any submission you made — including associated photos, location data, and nicknames — by emailing takedown@coffeeprices.org. I'll process removal requests within a reasonable timeframe.
If you're in the EU/EEA, you have rights under the GDPR including access, correction, deletion, and data portability. Contact me at the email above to exercise these rights.
Children
This site is not directed at children under 13. I do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has submitted data, contact me and I will remove it.
Changes to this policy
I may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date. For significant changes, I'll note it on the homepage.
